Marmara Denizi’ndeki üç derin çukurdan biri olan Çınarcık Çukuru olarak bilinen
Doğu Çukuru, çözünmüş oksijen düşüklüğünün görüldüğü önemli noktalardandır.
Özellikle dip sularda oksijenin azalması sebebiyle hidrojen sülfür oluşumu tehdidi
giderek artmaktadır. Bu durum göz önünde bulundurulduğunda bu bölgede
anoksik ve suboksik koşulların belirlenmesinde önem arz eden parametrelerin
araştırılması oldukça önemlidir. Çözünmüş oksijen seviyesinin 2 mg/L’nin altına
düşmesi ile oluşan bu suboksik ve oksijenin tükenmesiyle oluşan anoksik
koşulların incelenmesi ekosistemin dengesinin korunabilmesi ve ilgili önlemlerin
alınabilmesi için gereklidir. Bu açıdan bakıldığında, deniz ortamında ivedilikle
takip edilmesi ve değerlendirilmesi gereken önemli parametreler (pH, çözünmüş
oksijen, toplam çözünmüş sülfür, sülfat, redoks potansiyeli vb.) vardır. Bunlardan
en önemlisi bisülfid (HS-) ve hidrojen sülfür varlığına ışık tutacak olan sülfat
indirgeyen bakterilerin (SRB) tespitidir. Denizel ortamda biyojeokimyasal
döngülerde önemli rol oynayan sülfat indirgeyen bakterilerin Çınarcık Çukuru’nda
tespitine yönelik bir çalışmaya henüz rastlanmamıştır. Bu nedenle, İstanbul
Üniversitesi Deniz Bilimleri ve İşletmeciliği Enstitüsü’ne ait R/V Alemdar II
araştırma gemisi ile 2022 yılı Haziran ayında gerçekleştirilen saha çalışmasında
Çınarcık Çukuru’ndan (45C) su örnekleri alınmıştır. Alınan su örneklerinde pH,
çözünmüş oksijen, toplam çözünmüş sülfür, sülfat ve SRB izolasyonu ve sayımı
yapılmıştır.Yapılan çalışmada 45C istasyonunda çalışılan derinliklerde (250,
500,750 ve 900 m) suda sülfat indirgeyen bakterilerin varlığı tespit edilmiştir.
Sülfat indirgeyen bakterilerin en yüksek değeri 750 m’de 85000 h/ml ve en düşük
değeri ise 250 m’de 3000 h/ml olarak bulunmuştur. Bakteri sayılarının çözünmüş
oksijen ve sülfat seviyesine bağlı olarak değiştiği tespit edilmiştir.
