Abstract

The period of early childhood definedas birth to starting to primary school. This time frame is a critical period because development of many foundational skills in all areas of development completed in this period, personality and adulthood behavior patterns are shaped by early childhood experiences.Behavioral delays in very young children have led to the deficiencies andinadequacies in their development. Therefore the quality of early childhood education programs and pre-school education institutions is very important. It is very crucial for families being aware of importance of early childhood education and knowing what to look when choosing the right preschool for their child. This research conducted to reveal the families’ thoughts about the importance of preschool education and determine the criteria which they consider when they are choosing preschool education institutions for their children. The study was carried out with parents who have children attending the one preschool education institution. Some of the socio-demographic characteristics of the parents’, parents’ thoughts on the importance of preschool education and criteria they consider when choosing a school were investigated and the relationship between them was aimed to determine. The data were collected through a questionnaire-form developed by the researchers. Research data have been analyzed by appropriate statistical methods.
