Localized Gingival Hyperplasia: A Case Report Hatice Bayrak 1, Yağmur Ünlü 1, F. Nihan Aksakallı 1, Halil Erhan Fıratlı 1 1 İstanbul University, Institute of Health Sciences,Department of Periodontology, İstanbul-Turkiye The lesions seen in the mouth vary in various aspects. Among these lesions, gingival diseases have an important part. Most of these lesions are non-neoplastic pathologic gingival growths with fibrous proliferation. In this case report, the treatment of the patient's gingival enlargement and the histopathologic evaluation of this enlargement were aimed. CASE A 62-year-old female patient with diabetes mellitus and hypertension was admitted to the Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, Istanbul University with the complaint of gingival enlargement in the region of the first incisor of the left maxilla, which bothered her both aesthetically and functionally. In the anamnesis of the patient, it was learned that the gingival growth was excised from the relevant area 1 year ago but was not evaluated pathologically. The patient was firstly cleaned the tooth surface and given oral care education. After the non-surgical periodontal treatment was completed, it was observed that the gingiva did not shrink. Excisional surgical treatment was planned to eliminate the lesion.  The gingival growth in the left 1st incisor of the maxilla was excised in two parts by excisional biopsy. The excised pieces were sent to the Department of Pathology for histopathologic examination in 10% formalin solution. RESULTS Postoperative healing of the affected area was normal. Histopathologic examination of the specimens revealed a diagnosis of peripheral fibroma. No recurrence was observed at the 3rd month follow-up. CONCLUSION Histopathologic examination should be performed for differential diagnosis with malignancies in this type of gingival growths. After excision of the gingival growth, etiologic fac
