Microbial growth is common on interior walls and floor surfaces, where people spend a period of long time such as hospitals, schools, residences, with the influence of environmental factors and human activity. Inhalation of contaminated air and contact to contaminated surfaces cause infections. Antimicrobial coating of surfaces such as walls is effective in preventing these infections. Antimicrobial wall paints generally comprise different compounds such as silver, metal oxide nanoparticles. However, these chemicals have toxic effects on human cells in long-term exposure. In our study, the antimicrobial and in-can preservative effect of SilQUAT (3- (trimethoxysilyl) -propyl, cocodimethylammonium chloride) biocide added paint were evaluated against representative microorganisms. It was determined that the paint containing SilQUAT compound showed strong antimicrobial effect. Additionally, it was shown that the compound was also effective as an in-can preservative.
