Abstract
Study area centrally located on the Northern Shelf of Marmara Sea. The area between the southern exit
of Istanbul Strait and the Prince Islands was investigated. This study was based on the evaluation and
interpretation of the seismic and microbathymetric data. As a result, presence of a basin was found
between the Gulf of Tuzla and the canyon of Istanbul Strait. Moreover, it is also possible to state that
the normal faults, found in this study strike N-S and control the western slopes of the Istanbul Strait
canyon. The normal faults around the vicinity of the Prince Islands strike NE-SW. The strike of the
strike slip faults througout the study area, on the other hand, is found to be NW-SE, a direction also
supported by the lineaments in the study area.
