Özet

Objective: Problematic internet use is increasingly recognized as an important public health issue worldwide. Research indicates that this condition may trigger various behavioral problems or emerge as a consequence of different behavioral difficulties. This study aimed to examine the relationship between problematic internet use, eating attitudes, and self-harm behaviors among high school students. Material and Method: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 1,890 students enrolled in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades at 30 high schools randomly selected, through cluster sampling, from among 99 high schools in Denizli. Data were collected using a questionnaire form, the Young Internet Addiction Test, the Eating Attitudes Test, and the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory. Results: Among a total of 292 Candida strains, Candida albicans (C. albicans) was isolated most frequently (42.5%), followed by C. The prevalence of problematic internet use among the participants was found to be 18.9%. It was determined that 17.2% of the students were at risk for eating behavior disorders, and 32.1% reported self-harming behaviors. Logistic regression analysis revealed a highly significant relationship between problematic internet use, eating attitudes, and self-harming behaviors (p<0.001). Conclusion: In high school students, susceptibility to eating behavior disorders and self-harm is associated with problematic Internet use. Longitudinal studies in this field are expected to provide more comprehensive information regarding the direction of these relationships. Moreover, the development and implementation of school-based programs are recommended in order to prevent the rapidly increasing behavioral addictions among adolescents.
