Özet

In Turkey, the University Reform of 1933 had transformed Dar al-Funun of Istanbul into Istanbul University. This transformation is a landmark in the reorganization of the higher education system in Turkey. This reorganization depended mainly on the Humboldtian higher education model, whose central concepts are unity of science, unity of teaching and research, and Bildung. In this regard, the report prepared by Albert Malche in 1932 on the reorganization of higher education in Turkey overlaps the Humboldtian model's concepts. The reorganization of Istanbul University in the direction of the Humboldtian model was executed during Cemil Bilsel's nine-year rectorship. "University Conferences" and "University Week" are direct and public outcomes of the Humboldtian model. University Week, which was yearly organized in a different city throughout 1940-1945, constitutes a practical example for examining how the new higher education institution displayed its new mission and its new mindset.
