Abstract

Bleu Blanc Vert (Blue White Green) is Maïssa Bey's novel, published in 2006, which tells the history of Algeria and the social, political and economic events between 1962 and 1992 through a fictional text in three sections of ten years. Lilas and Ali, the heroes of the novel, are two Algerians who shared the same apartment in Alger, the capital of Algeria, and then fell in love with each other and got married. Lilas and Ali, who were two little children in 1962, the date when Algeria gained its independence and the French withdrew from the country, speak in the first person and express their observations, feelings and thoughts in the chapters titled He/She reserved for them throughout the novel. These observations are a treasure trove for understanding the pre- and post-independence Algerian society, especially the multi-cultural environment shared by the French and the Arabs, around the problematic of identities. In this study, the changes that the Algerian society has gone through for 30 years through a fictional work were examined within the framework of the concepts of assimilation, otherness, interculturality and acculturation, and the role of these elements in the formation of ethnic and national identity, the relationship between space and identity and the construction of women's identity was considered.
