Economic crises are the processes
in which the balance of supply and demand deteriorated suddenly and
unexpectedly in the markets even though it gives initial signals, like an
insidious disease that does not show symptoms. The economic structure is just
like the human body consists of different organs and organisms; It consists of
combining different types of equilibrium, such as goods and services markets,
financial markets and labor markets. When economic crises erupt in any of these
markets, it affects the entire system by spreading into other markets, such as
the process of damaging a disease by infecting to different organs in the body.
One of the part of the system that affected by the crises is the area of
income distribution. İn this study, the effects of the economic crises of
1994, 2001 and 2008 on income distribution in Turkey were examined via
establishing a time series model by ARDLBounds Testing Approach. According to
the long-term results of the econometric model, it was determined that the 1994
Crisis increased the Gini coefficient by approximately 0.662% and the 2001
Crisis by approximately 0.512%. Although the long-term coefficient of the 2008
Crisis was positive, it was found statistically insignificant. İn conclusion,
according to the findings of the study,
the economic crises in question has had a desructive impact on income
distribution in the long term; while has had a corrective impact in the short
term.
