Özet

This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of how various industries leverage algae in environmental services, covering applications in bioremediation, wastewater treatment, biofuel production, and carbon capture. Algal species exhibit high adaptability and productivity in diverse environments, making them ideal for absorbing pollutants, enhancing soil health, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Beginning with an introduction to algal biology and its environmental relevance, the chapter examines wastewater treatment practices where algae facilitate nutrient removal, heavy metal sequestration, and organic pollutant degradation. Additionally, biofuel production from microalgae will be highlighted as a renewable energy source with significant reductions in carbon footprints compared to fossil fuels. This section will delve into cultivation techniques, optimization processes, and economic viability. Lastly, we will explore algae's role in carbon capture and biofixation, particularly in capturing CO2 from industrial emissions. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the economic and environmental implications of scaling these technologies, along with the regulatory frameworks and policies guiding industrial algal applications.
