Abstract

This study contributes to contemporary debates on Orientalism and gender by foregrounding Cristina di Belgiojoso’s travel writings as a space of negotiation rather than domination. By highlighting how gender identity reshapes the gaze of the European traveler, it challenges monolithic representations of the “Orient” and recovers a female, hybrid perspective often marginalized in canonical travel literature. The article encourages a more nuanced understanding of cross-cultural encounters and promotes critical reflection on gendered knowledge production in both historical and modern contexts.
