Abstract

Helleborus orientalis is one of the medicinal plants, which is naturally grown in, the north of Turkey. Although the botanic, morphologic, chemical and toxicological properties of the plant are known (Malkoy, 1967), pharmaceutical effect of Helleborus orientalis was not studied enough. Whereas it has been reported that extracts from the Helleborus species grown in Europe have cardioactive, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatismal effects, used in tumour therapy, as insecticide, and for healing animals from chronic inflammatory diseases in Romania (Bussing and Schweizer, 1998).
