Abstract

This study critically analyzes the perception of Turkish identity in the European Parliament (EP) between 2007 and 2015, as a period of Türkiye’s de-Europeanization. Using the Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA), this article analyzes the discourses of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) on the European security community. It reveals concerns of ontological security in Europe and how Türkiye is perceived as both a security partner and a threat in the region. The article’s findings contribute to the ongoing debates concerning the role of Türkiye in the sense of ontological (in)security in Europe.
