Bu çalışmanın amacı; dünyada hızla yaygınlaşmakta olan mobil cihazlar kullanarak, her ortamda okuma, dinleme, izleme, deneyimleme ve sınanma imkanı bulunan ePub standardının, eğitim sistemine, öğrenci ve öğretim elemanlarına sağladığı/sağlayacağı imkanları ortaya koymak ve yöntemlerini incelemektir. Dünyada, özellikle 2010 yılından itibaren mobil cihaz kullanımının yaygınlaşması ve yine aynı şekilde internet hızının ve kullanımının artması, okuma alışkanlıklarını ve eğitim anlayışını değiştirmiştir. Bu sebeple; okuma ve ders kitapları, dergi ve gazeteler, broşür ve ürün katalogları ePub standardında üretilmeye başlanmıştır. 2012-2017 yılları arasında tablet kullanımının dört katına çıkacağı ve bilgisayarlardan daha fazla kullanılacağına dair yapılan araştırmalar, ePub standardının hayatımızda kaplayacağı yeri daha net bir şekilde anlatmaktadır. 2007 yılında açık bir e-kitap standardı olarak ortaya çıkan ePub; içeriği yeniden boyutlandırarak “metin yerleştirme”, “metinde arama yapma, vektörel resim ekleme, metadata desteği sunma, DRM ile Dijital Haklar Yönetimine imkan verme, CSS3 stilleme, metin içine yorum ekleme, XML ve HTML5 desteği sunma, ses ve video desteği sağlama gibi özelliklere sahiptir. Açıköğretim ve uzaktan eğitim yöntemi ile eğitim yapan yüksek öğretim kurumlarının verdiği eğitim türünde bütün faaliyet ve süreçler büyük oranda bilişim teknolojileri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmektedir. Ders içeriği, bu eğitim modelinde ders notu veya kitabı olup e-kitap özelliklerini taşımaktadır. ePub standardının özelliklerinden dolayı genel trend e-kitap formatının pdf, html yerine ePub standardının kullanılması şeklindedir. ePub sayesinde zenginleştirilmiş e-kitaplar mobil cihazlar kullanarak her yerden erişilebilecek şekilde ücretsiz sunulabilmektedir. ePub ders içeriklerinin öğrenciler için, görsel-işitsel olarak zenginleştirilmesi, taşıma zorluğu yaşamadan her yerden erişebilmesi, daha zevkli, interaktif ve kalıcı öğrenmeyi artıracaktır. Ayrıca öğretim elemanlarının teknolojiyi iyi kullanabilmesi, içeriklere resim, ses, video, animasyon ekleyebilmesi, kolaylıkla güncellemelerle sürekli yeni bilgileri kullanabilmesi gibi avantajları sağlayabilecektir. Bu yenilikçi süreç; öğretim elemanlarına kendi ders notu ve kitaplarını düzenli olarak ePub formatlı e-kitap üretebilme imkanı sağlayacaktır.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the ePub standards’ which using with mobile devices and rapidly growing in the World, and give oppurtunities for reading, listening, experimentation and examinaion from everywhere and introduce new oppurtunities and new methods for education system, students and academicians. Reading habits and educational perspectives changed in the world, especially from the year 2010 by the widespread use of mobile devices and in the same way the increasing usage of internet speed. So; reading and course materials, magazines and newspapers, brochures and product catalogs was produced in ePub standard. Some researchs describes the the usage of tablet computers will be four times and more use than computers between years of 2012-2017. Thus; ePub standards’ occupy the place in our lives more clearly understood. Some Epub features are reflowable (word wrap) and resizable text, inline raster and vector images, embedded metadata, DRM support, CSS styling, Support for alternative renditions in the same file, Use of out-of-line and inline XML islands to extend the functionality of EPUB, Support for Audio and Video content, which arise as an open e-book standard in 2007. Higher education institutions mostly carried out by using information technology in all activities and processes which they have method of open and distance education. Course content known as course notes or a book of this educational model and has the characteristics of e-book. General trend is using ePub standards instead pdf or html for e-book format because of the ePub standard features. E-books enriched with ePub can be accessed from anywhere and can be offered free by mobile devices. By the ePub course contents which they enriched with audio-visual components for students will improve more enjoyable, interactive and permanent learning with access anywhere and without experiencing carrying. Additionally, this situation will be able to provide some advantages like, using technology, adding image, audio, video and animations to contents and always easily use the new information for updates for academicians. This innovative process will provide ePub format e-books to academicians for generate their own course notes and books to ePub.
