Abstract

The fluctuation of remotely sensed sea radiance is investigated and comparatively simple expressions for the average value and the variance of radiance are derived. Possible causes for this fluctuation are sea waves and the angular gradient of sky radiation. The influence of oil films on the average radiance is also estimated.
