Humans are constantly on the move, even if at first glance it might appear that the basic form of human existence is sedentary living. If one considers Germany in relation to the phenomenon of migration, the country has experienced diverse and changing phases. The last migration, in terms of its consequences, was labor migration since the end of the 1950s. This migration took place on the basis of various agreements with different countries. Added to this was the migration from the former Eastern Bloc countries after the fall of the Berlin Wall, which sought Germany as a destination in varying waves. Over time, these waves of migration changed the face of German society to such an extent that the country had to be recognized as a country of immigration. This development had consequences for German society as a whole. In various studies, primarily sociological ones, the discussion about hegemony in society was sparked, based on the postcolonialism debate. Thus, the discussion about the new form of German society, which was commonly called the postmigrant society, was on the agenda. Since literary studies develops its approaches by borrowing from neighboring disciplines, the discussion of postmigration has also become a staple of literary studies. The present volume, entitled Postmigrantische Literatur. Grundlagen, Analysen, Positionen by Hodaie and Hofmann, addresses various aspects of postmigrant literature in its contributions, often referring to the framework.
