Ballıcaoluk stratejik açıdan önemli bir bölgede yer almaktadır. Yerleşim, duvarlar ile çevrili sarp ve kayalık yamaçlı bir tepenin üzerine kurulmuştur. Güney kule “Kuleyıkı” Hellenistik Dönem’e tarihlenmektedir. Kuleyıkı’nın doğu kısmında, seramik buluntuları, ok uçları, madeni ve diğer küçük buluntuların varlığını gösteren büyük taş işçiliğine sahip bir savunma duvarının planını ortaya koymak için çeşitli bilimsel çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Bu buluntular Hellenistik Dönem öncesine tarihlenmektedir. Yerleşimin tarihlenmesi Karamettepe’nin Geometrik ve Arkaik Dönemleri ile paraleldir.
The settlement was located on a strategically important position. It was established on a hill with steep rocky slopes and surrounded by walls. Independent south tower “Kuleyıkı” is dated to the Hellenistic period. On the east site of Kuleyıkı documentation of a plan of huge stone masonry defense wall and excavations brought ceramic finds, arrow heads, metals and other small finds. These finds from Ballıcaoluk is dated to pre-Hellenistic period. The date of this site is parallel to Karamattepe’s Geometric and Archaic periods.
