The stagnant water conditions for a long time caused a thick and heterogen biofilm formation on the
surfaces. Due to the impact of consortium of different bacterial groups in the biofilm, the paint layer
was damaged locally, and steel was corroded in these areas. Bacteria of the sulfur-, iron-, and
manganese-cycles played a major role in this phenomenon.
