Salvia species are prominent members of folk medicine of numerous countries throughout the world. Salvia officinalis is one of the most widespread species and since ancient times has been used in the treatment of various disorders, such as tuberculosis 1, psoriasis and seboreic eczema 2. It has shown strong antibacterial and antifungal activities 3. Some oestrogenic activity was also attributed to the leaf extract of the plane. The structure-activity relation of the diterpenoids obtained from S. canariensis, S. texana and S.cardiophylla were shown on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria 5 (Fig. 1 and 2).
