Özet

In recent years, it has been suggested that Helicobacter Pylori (HP) infections were increasingly seen in critically ill patients and it could be seen as a nosocomial infection agent. The aim of this study, was to detect the incidence of HP and whether there was a relation between incidence and possible risk factors in critically ill patients, who are managed in Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit (AICU). Fifty two patients were involved in the study. The patients who have used antibiotics in the period of 4 weeks before hospitalization, and with a positive history of gastric ulcer of or surgery were excluded. To evaluate HP colonization, stool specimens were taken on the 1st and 7th days of hospitalization and HP antigen was scanned (Primer Platinium HpSA, Meridian Diagnostics, Inc-USA). HP antigen positivity was increased from 57.7 % to 65.4 % on the 7th day (p>0.05). Seropositivity was found in cardiac patients at the same time, and this was supposed as a risk factor in etiopathogenesis. In conclusion, even though it was not statistically significant, the increase in the incidence of HP positivity in ICU patients would lead us to consider that HP would be a nosocomial infection agent. However large series are needed to evaluate this topic.
