Özet

The objective of this article is to explain the data obtained by some fundamental analyses performed on waterlogged wood, and the ways of utilizing this data. Today, thanks to state-of-art technology, many different and new methods are used in the analysis of waterlogged wooden artifacts. However, this article aims to provide the most preferred basic analytical practices among all. The purpose of carrying out these analyses is mainly to characterize the properties of waterlogged wood, understand the degradation level of its nature and properly manage the conservation work. The analyses taken into consideration are: maximum water content, basic density, loss of wood substance, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) energy dispersed X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), radiographic methods, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis.
