(IM)POSSIBILITY OF A TWO-STATE SOLUTION IN HISTORIC PALESTINE: A PHILOSOPHICAL STUDY THROUGH
THE METAPHYSICS OF AVICENNA

For the past 75 years, dating back to the period of the British mandate over Palestine, numerous international proposals for a two-state solution have been formulated, yet none have been realized. The Western bloc, the United States, Britain, and the European Union, has typically attributed this failure to the idea that the historical and material conditions for such a solu- tion have not yet matured, albeit expressed in various ways. However, these conditions have never been explicitly defined, nor has it been clarified why similar prerequisites were not demanded for the establishment of the State of Israel.

This ambiguity raises the critical questions of whether a two-state solu- tion is, in fact, 'possible in itself,' and if so, under what conditions this pos- sibility would transition into the 'external sphere of existence.' The aim of this paper is to explore these questions through the framework of Avicen- na's concept of possibility, one of the central tenets of his philosophy. Spe- cifically, it will examine why a two-state solution is not feasible when ana- lyzed through A vicenna's notions of efficient cause and necessity— principles that govern contingent existence.

In line with Avicenna's metaphysical framework, this paper argues that just as the concept of a contingent being that 'remains in the realm of possi- bility forever' is inherently contradictory, the proposal of a two-state solu- tion, which remains perpetually within the sphere of possibility, is in fact, impossible.

Filistin’in İngiliz mandasında olduğu dönemden başlayarak 75 yıldır iki devletli çözümün sağlanmasına yönelik sayısız uluslararası plan ortaya konmuş ancak bu planlar hiçbir zaman fiiliyata geçirilmemiştir. Batılı bloku (ABD, Britanya, AB vb.) nezdinde söz konusu husus, çeşitli şekillerde ifade edilmesine rağmen, son tahlilde tarihsel ve fiili şartların henüz olgunlaş- mamış olmasına bağlanmaktadır. Ancak söz konusu şartların neler olduğu hiçbir zaman sarahatle ortaya konmadığı gibi bu şartların neden İsrail’in bir devlet olarak ortaya çıkması için de talep edilmediği açıklanmamıştır. Bu durum, iki devletli yapının gerçekten ‘kendinde mümkün’ olup olmadığı, imkân dahilindeyse hangi şartlarda mümkün olmaktan çıkıp ‘harici varlık sahasına’ intikal edeceği sorularının cevaplanmasını gerektirmektedir. Bu tebliğin amacı da söz konusu soruları İbn Sînâ felsefesindeki temel kavram- lardan biri olan imkân mefhumu çerçevesinde ele alarak iki devletli çözü- mün neden mümkün olmadığını mümkün varlığın sebebi olan fail illet ve zorunluluk kavramları çerçevesinde ele almaktır. Nitekim tebliğ, İbn Sînâ metafiziğinin kavramlarıyla yaklaşıldığında, ‘sonsuza kadar imkân boyu- tunda kalan’ mümkün kavramının çelişik olması gibi ‘sonsuza kadar imkân dahilinde olan iki devletli çözüm’ önerisinin de aslında imkânsız olduğunu ortaya koyamaya çalışmaktadır.
