Özet

Familial Mediterranean fever is an autoinflammatory disease caused by gain-of-function mutations in the pyrin inflammasome. Kastner and colleagues show that mutant pyrin better resists suppression by the plague bacteriumYersinia pestisand may have been positively selected in human Middle Eastern populations.
