In this paper, a new approach is proposed using electromagnetic waves in time domain for the detection of the buried objects. The analysis of electromagnetic pulse propagation through geophysical exploration, target identificatin are among the areas which rely on the transient wave propagation in inhomogeneous media. In geophysical case, it is required to deduce the physical properties of the object under study, such as the size, shape and electrical characteristics. Here an efficient method of solving transient electromagnetic scattering problem is propsed in an arbitrary two-dimensional inhomogenous, isotropic case and transient response of the buried object is analysed. Two dimensional detection algorithm is developed by using the frequency domain Green’s function. We have also used an efficient solution to scattering problem which is based on the finite difference time domain (FDTD). In geo-radar data, time domain pulse response of the buried object is considered for the measured data. Realistic media and physical sizes are used. Here the use of the power density direction for the detection is introduced. Green’s function is used to obtain the object cross section distribution by using tjhe integral equation formulation.
