Abstract

Abstract: On 28 December 2023 two specimens of Trachinotus ovatus (Linnaeus, 1758) have been captured by means of a commercial mid-water trawler off the coast of Türkiye in southwestern Black Sea. The presence of this thermophilic species is likely to be related to increasing seawater temperatures in the region. For the moment, capture locality of the present specimens represents the northernmost range extension of T. ovatus accross the Mediterranean Sea. If surface water temperatures in the Black Sea continue to increase, the dispersal of T. ovatus in the region can be expected to move further north.
