Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğrencilerin genetik kavramlarına ilişkin kavramsal anlama du¨zeylerini ve kavram yanılgılarını belirlemektir. Çalışmanın örneklemini İstanbul ili Fatih ilçesinde bulunan iki devlet ortaokulunun sekizinci sınıfında öğrenim gören 237 öğrenci
oluşturmaktadır. Betimsel tarama modelinde yu¨ru¨tu¨len çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak Genetik Kavramsal Anlama Testi kullanılmıştır (Lewis ve Wood-Robinson, 2000). Çalışma verilerinin istatistiksel analizi bir paket program kullanılarak yapılmıştır.
Çalışma bulgularına göre, öğrencilerin temel genetik kavramları hakkında kavram yanılgılarına sahip oldukları göru¨lmu¨ştu¨r. Çalışmanın bulgularına dayanarak bu kavram yanılgılarının giderilmesine yönelik önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The aim of this study is to determine students’ levels of conceptual understanding and misconceptions about genetic concepts. The sample of the study consists of 237 students who are studying in the 8th grade of two public middle schools located in Fatih district of Istanbul. In the study that conducted in the descriptive survey method Genetic Conceptual Understanding Questionnaire (Lewis and Wood-Robinson, 2000) was used as a data collection tool. Data analysis was performed using a data analysis software.
According to the findings, students have misconceptions about basic genetic concepts. Based on the findings of the study, suggestions were made to overcome these misconceptions.
