Özet

Artificial Intelligence (AI) influences many industries, and competition in industries. Intensified competition in industries and innovation foster use of AI which influences workforce profile. Employees’ knowledge and skills needed, and their roles and responsibilities are affected by AI. The Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry is one of the industries which can be affected by the AI. Labor-intensiveness and gender gap in the construction industry can be affected by the use of AI. Based on an in-depth literature review, this chapter aims to investigate impacts of the AI on the AEC industry and its gender equality and to provide recommendations for upskilling human resources and supporting gender equality in the AI-integrated AEC industry. This chapter emphasizes that successful, effective, and human-centric AI integration to the AEC industry can be affected and supported by effective management of this integration’s multidimensional impacts supporting achievement of sustainability, gender equality and sustainable development, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and enhancing AEC industry’s performance and overcoming challenges, weaknesses, and difficulties experienced in the AEC industry. Successful, effective, and human-centric AI integration to the AEC industry can be supported by AEC industry companies’ management of the AI integration into their processes strategically in a human-centric way supporting, protecting, and upskilling their human resources; countries’ effective relevant policies, regulations, and investment to enhance women empowerment and gender equality through the human-centric AI-integrated AEC industry; and universities, and their effective, strategic, and contemporary curriculums to potentially contributing to women empowerment upskilling human resources, and to reduce/eliminate relevant skills gap problem in the AI-integrated AEC industry. This chapter can be beneficial to all stakeholders of the AI-integrated AEC industry, including policymakers, academics, and professionals (e.g., architects, interior designers, civil engineers).
