The Genus Pimpinella in Turkey.

Abstract
Pimpinella is one of the largest genera (c.150 sp.) of the family Umbelliferae/Apiaceae. This genus is mainly distributed through subtropical and temperate regions of the northern hemisphere, and the Mediterranean region is one of the most important centers of diversity for this group [1].
30 Pimpinella taxa were recognised (9 endemic taxa) as 26 species, 6 subspecies, and 4 varieties from Turkey [2-4].
These numbers are revised to 27 taxa as 25 species (1 unsolved species), 5 subspecies, and 1 variety according to our researchs. 1 new record is added to the Turkish flora (P. lazica). P. antriscoides was represented by 2 subspecies in Flora of Turkey. P. antriscoides subsp. cruciata was published as a new genus (Pseudopimpinella) by Khajepiri and friends [5]. We confirmed that, this species is completely different from Pimpinella genus by especially inner and outer fruit characteristics. Similarly, other subspecies, P. antriscoides subsp. antriscoidesfruit characteristicshave been observed to be varied from Pimpinella and Pseudopimpinella genera.
P. cretica has two varieties in Turkey, P. cretica var. cretica and var. arabica. Based on our observations and herbarium samples collected from different countries, we could say that there is only var. cretica in Turkey.
Chromosome numbersof 7 taxa have been identified: 2n=20 (except P. eriocarpa, 2n=16).
