Özet
Domestic film production in Turkey has expanded substantially since the early 2000s. Using a 6,618 film-level dataset spanning more than two decades, this study tests whether revenue concentration, measured by the Gini coefficient, has increased over time, and if a higher domestic release share is associated with higher concentration. The concentration trend is supported using the Gini coefficient as the primary measure, with a normalized cumulative revenue threshold as a robustness check; a third measure based on top-performing releases supports the pandemic-related association but not the longer-run trend. The release-share association is more fragile: it does not survive once the aggregate time trend is held constant in levels, and is supported only in a first-differenced specification that isolates year-to-year co-movement from the shared trend. A closer look at the pandemic period reveals two distinct patterns: aggregate concentration peaked in one year, while domestic films lost revenue share the following year without a corresponding rise in market-wide concentration. The findings are drawn from a single developing market, and are not presented as a general test of long tail theory. Findings also highlight that production-volume support and distribution-access support serve distinguishable functions in emerging film markets.
