Abstract

Within city areas, outdoor elements can be characterized as part of the city’s identity. Those outdoor elements which are used in these cities; limiters (walls and fences), sitting elements, sign panels, litter bins, cover coat items, etc. can be listed. In the designs of these outdoor elements, the materials used can have auxiliary functionalities such as adding to the item’s aesthetics, usability and economic affordability. Besides these features other considerations such as the durability, harmony with natural surroundings and recyclability of these items still maintain its due importance. In landscape design, outdoor furniture which will be specifically located in urban areas; the available materials used have changed with the advent of technological developments. In this context, wood polymer composites have distinctive advantages. As wood polymer composites are any materials which are made of more than one component; this makes composites different from other multi-component systems. Wood polymer composites offer a number of advantages such as high dimensional stability, eco-friendliness, recyclability, and durability against splits, wrap, and insect and fungal attacks. Aim of this study was to examine the usage potential and advantages of wood polymer composites in urban furniture.
