Abstract

A geographical reading approach is a methodological framework that involves examining how space is represented in literary texts, the functions it assumes, and the meanings it conveys. This approach enables scholars to analyze how geographical concepts and theories influence textual representations of space. Geographical reading approaches address the geographical experiences of writers, physical and social geographical elements, cultural geography, geopolitical issues, the geography of literary genres, and environmental problems through different theoretical and methodological frameworks. Geographical reading does not merely evaluate the spaces in literary texts descriptively. It provides a more profound reading experience by examining the texts' cultural, historical, and social contexts through the lens of geographical elements. It also facilitates the integration of literary production with the shaping power of space on human beings. In this respect, geographical reading occupies a distinctive and transformative position within interdisciplinary critical approaches. In this study, the places and geographical elements in Beh & ccedil;et Aysan's poems are examined through the lens of the geographical reading method. To this end, the present study was conducted using the survey model, which is one of the qualitative research designs. Theoretical information about the literature-geography relationship, literary geography, geographical reading, and Beh & ccedil;etAysan was obtained through a literature review. The data collection process involved the utilization of academic publications and reliable online sources. The analysis of Behcet Aysan's poems was conducted by the findings obtained. Upon conclusion of the study, it was observed that Aysan's poetic compositions address geographical elements in a multifaceted manner. In his poems, space functions not only as a physical background but also as a structural element that reflects individual and social experiences, thereby deepening the poem's poetic meaning.
