Özet

With the increasingly dynamic and complex nature of the academic environment, the necessity for

effective communication and collaboration has grown significantly. In this context, the rise of

interdisciplinary studies has further highlighted the need for mutual respect and understanding among

academics working toward shared goals. Accordingly, the concept of academic civility has gained

heightened importance in terms of academic communication, collaboration, and ethical behavior,

playing a crucial role in the development of academic environments. This phenomenon directly

influences communication practices, academic partnerships, and ethical conduct.Although the concept

of academic civility is typically addressed in the literature as a set of respectful, responsible, and

appropriate behaviors that facilitate interpersonal communication, this study examines its various

dimensions. Moreover, it presents a comprehensive analysis of both the positive and negative impacts

of academic civility. The absence of civility can lead to burnout among individuals and hinder

collaborative efforts and shared productivity within institutions. This study reveals the levels of academic

civility from both individual and institutional perspectives. It examines two primary scenarios: first, in

contexts where academic civility is present, it explores its relationship with three key dimensions—

respect, sensitivity, and appreciation. Second, in contexts where academic civility is lacking, it identifies

institutional consequences such as psychological strain, a decline in professional collaboration and

productivity, loss of trust, and a weakened sense of belonging. The study aims to evaluate these two

scenarios through an integrative review, offering both a conceptual and institutional analysis of the

positive and negative associations of academic civility. Ultimately, the findings emphasize that

academic civility influences not only individual motivation but also institutional commitment,

organizational citizenship, a sense of belonging, and overall productivity. The value and significance of

academic civility are underlined, and recommendations are offered for its reinforcement and promotion
