Özet

Viruses are responsible for the 20% of cancers worldwide. Human herpes viruses, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and HHV-8, hepatitis B and C viruses, human papilloma viruses (Type 11, 16, 32) and retroviruses, human immune deficiency virus (HIV-1) and human T-cell lymphotropic Virus (HTLV-1) are proved to be associated with malignancies. Retroviruses rarely cause cancers whereas hepatitis and papilloma viruses cause cancer more frequently. Cancer is a group of diseases which can be identified by clonality, autonomy, anaplasia and metastases. Although cancer etiology differs according to phenotypical and genotypical factors, it is well known that most of the cancer types are related with enviromental factors. Consequently we evaluated viruses and their relationship with cancers by reviewing the clusters of literature.
