Özet

The book examines how political processes become depoliticized through claims to possess truth. It argues that the displacement of political plurality by a singular and supposedly objective truth produces forms of exclusion that silence different perspectives and render political participation meaningless. The public sphere, which should provide a space where diverse voices encounter one another through disagreement and debate, loses its political character when it becomes governed by a single truth claim.

Tracing this tendency within the tradition of political thought, the book explores how attempts to replace the contingency, plurality, complexity, and open-endedness of political life with hierarchical and predetermined orders give rise to an anti-political disposition. By questioning the conditions under which speech, disagreement, and participation are rendered meaningless, the book proposes that politics can be rethought through a critical examination of anti-politics.

Arendt’s and Rancière’s conceptions of politics as processes of appearance, disclosure, speech, and equality provide important resources for this undertaking. Against the background of the contemporary crises of Turkey and the wider world, the book argues that the crisis of liberal representative democracy cannot be understood apart from the depoliticization of political life. Revitalizing democracy therefore requires a genuine public sphere in which plurality, disagreement, and diverse perspectives can flourish without being subordinated to a singular claim to truth.
