From 15 to 17 January 2025, an international conference was held in València, a prominent cultural hub in Spain, with the objective of exploring the perspectives of German-speaking female writers on the Spanish-speaking world, encompassing themes of literature, culture, identity, and history. The conference was organised under the research project CIAICO 2022/105, conducted by the Department of German Studies at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of València, under the title “Rethinking the Hispanic World? Perspectives of German-Speaking Female Writers”. The organisation of the conference was the responsibility of the RIALE Research Group. The event examined the manner in which the Hispanic world is represented in the works of female German-speaking writers. Discussions, particularly those grounded in odepórica, or travel narratives, centred on subjects such as the formation of stereotypes, the impact of the male gaze, and the representation of female travellers in European cultural imagery. The event also addressed issues such as cultural transmission, aesthetic experiences, migration narratives, and the representation of women in travel literature. In this context, the reflections of the female perspective in historical and cultural contexts were highlighted. The objective of the conference was to reinterpret the relations between the Hispanic and German cultural worlds in light of different historical, cultural, and methodological contexts, particularly from an innovative gender perspective. The conference was distinguished by an interdisciplinary framework, which resulted in a convergence of scholars from a variety of disciplines, including German and Spanish literary studies, history, and gender studies. This facilitated a rich environment for intellectual exchange. The conference thus established a productive academic platform for the evaluation of the multi-layered relationships between German literature and the Hispanic world within historical, cultural and literary contexts.
