Mint herbs are perennial aromatic members of the Lamiaceae family, classified into 39 species worldwide according to The Plant List (2013). The genus Mentha comprises 15 hybrids and hundreds of subspecies, varieties, and cultivars. Mentha spp. are of great importance in herbal medicine, as the stems, leaves and flowers are ingredients in traditional herbal tea blends. Furthermore, it is frequently used as an additive to many teas to add aroma and flavour. Furthermore, Mentha species are employed in traditional medicine and incorporated into cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations due to their diverse biological effects.
