Özet

47 patients belonging to 20 families were detected as familial Behcet's disease cases among a series of 1784 Turkish Behcet's disease patients whom were followed up in our outpatient clinic for this disease. There was no significant difference between the familial cases and the non-familial ones as they were compared on the basis of clinical features. The HLAB5 phenotype was positive in all family members of the 12 familial cases and negative in the members of three families. In this study with the widest patient series (n= 1784) in the previous reports about Behcet's disease, the prevalence of familial cases was found to be 1.12%. This result suggests that, genetic factors take place in the aetiology of Behcet's disease but can not be a precipitating factor solely.
