Abstract

The age and growth of Mullus barbatus L. 1758, sampled around the Gokceada Island from September 2014 to June 2015 was determined. A lifetime of 0-VII years was found using age derived from otolith readings. A total of 717 specimen ranging from 70 to 227 mm TL were collected. The length-weight relationship of the species was W = 0.006L(3.22) for all individuals. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L-infinity = 27.2 cm, k = 0.17 yr(-1), t(0) = -2.49 for females, and L-infinity = 15.9 cm, k = 0.74 yr(-1), t(0) = -0.83 for males.
