Özet

New approaches in documentary films are discussed in this study. It is a fact that the classic narration in documentary film will no longer exist in films produced in the near future. Today the changes and developments in technology bring different technical possibilities for documentary film making as well as different styles of narration. The discovery and experimentation with different narration styles by documentary film directors and producers are shaping new narration possibilities. Thus, films shaped with the new approaches have been witnessed in documentary films recently and led to a redefining of documentary films. Now, new genres such as 'new media documentary', 'interactive documentary' and 'non-linear documentary' are emerging. As the amount of work on this subject is marginal in the Turkish literature this study has become a necessity. The aim of the study is to describe the innovations and new forms of documentary film. A comparative analysis done using the content analysis technique reflects the differences between the 'new genre' documentaries that use the new approaches and traditional documentary films. The present study has verified that the said changes are reflected in the 'form' and 'usage' characteristics of the type of documentary films realized by IDFA DocLab with the use of the digital analysis technique.
