Abstract

In this paper the mechanical, thermomechanical and chemical properties of MgO-C-blocks and MgO-Al2O3-spinel-castables are investigated. The samples used were MgO-C-blocks with carbon-contents of 5, 10 and 15 mass % and MgO-Al2O3-spinel-castables with tabular-alumina-contents of 0.43 and 67 mass-%. The mechanical properties (cold compression strength, porosity and density) were examined according to the German Standards DIN 51056 and DIN 51065, the thermomechanical property (refractories under load) according to DIN 51063 and the chemical property according to DIN 51069 (determination of the slag resistance according to the crucible method). The investigations show that the MgO-Al2O3-spinel-samples and should be used as inner lining in the slag zone of steel casting ladies. The MgO9-Al2O3-spinel-samples have good mechanical and thermomechanical properties and should be used in the working zone.
