Abstract

The article presented below consists of the translation of four poems selected from the short poems of Florus, one of the poets of Latin literature from the 2nd century AD. Although there are different opinions among scholars about the identity of the poet Florus, who is considered to have written during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, it is certain that his poems have survived to the present day through the Historia Augusta and the Anthologia Latina. The subject of the four poems translated from Florus' poems, where themes such as life, wine, women and poets are generally discussed, is about the rose, a flower that has been discussed in various contexts by different writers and poets in world literature. For the Turkish translation of the poems presented below with their original texts, the edition prepared by L. Mueller, which was used for the English translation by J. Wight Duff and Arnold M. Duff from the Loeb Classical Library series, was used.

Aşağıda sunulan yazı Latin edebiyatının MS 2. yüzyıl şairlerinden Florus’un kısa şiirlerinden (epigramlarından) seçilmiş dört şiirin çevirisinden oluşmaktadır. İmparator Hadrianus döneminde yazdığı kabul edilen şair Florus’un kimliği konusunda bilim insanları arasında farklı görüşler bulunmakla birlikte şiirlerinin günümüze Historia Augusta ve Anthologia Latina aracılığıyla ulaştığı kesindir. Genel olarak yaşam, şarap, kadınlar, şairler gibi temaların işlendiği Florus’un şiirlerinden çevirisi sunulan dört şiirin konusu dünya edebiyatında farklı yazar ve şairler tarafından çeşitli bağlamlarda konu edinilmiş bir çiçek olan gül üzerinedir. Aşağıda orijinal dildeki metinleri ile birlikte sunulan şiirlerin Türkçeye çevirisi için Loeb Classical Library serisinden J. Wight Duff ve Arnold M. Duff’ın İngilizce çeviri için kullandıkları L. Mueller’in hazırladığı edisyon temel alınmıştır.
