Abstract

A case of bilateral bifid ureters (ureter bifurcatus) is presented in a 52 year old female cadaver in a series of 100 cadavers (1%) dissected in the department of Anatomy, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. On each side the bifid ureters had a separate renal pelvis and joined each other at different levels to open by a common trunk into the base of the urinary bladder. The probable reason for this anomaly was the early branching of the ureteric bud before reaching the metanephric mesenchyma. This kind of congenital malformations are of clinical importance when surgical procedure is required in renal insufficiency or severe reflux cases.
