ABSTRACT

ALLAMAH GALANBAWI ISMAIL HODJA

An ideal religious scholar is such a person that he knows religious sciences very well, he is possessed of information about positive sciences in his period of time as much as possible, and at the same time he does not allow these two sciences to go beyond the bounds of each other by keeping the balance between his knowledge concerning these two fields. One of such exemplary scholars is Galanbawi Ismail Hodja, who lived in XII/XIIIth century. Both Islamic and Western worlds admired to his works dealing with grammar, rhetoric, logic, philosophy, theology, mathematics, astronomy and the appointed time, which were accepted as text-book in the high school, medresses for centuries. In this article, al-Kawthari let Galanbawi, who is among his academic chain, and Galanbawi's teacher Muftizadah Mahmad Amin Hodja know to Egyptian people and the other Islamic world, who knew his works but did not know his life sufficiently.
