Özet

An essential part of the inflammation in the reproductive system arises from microbial infections, especially sexually transmitted diseases, as well as the dysregulation of inflammatory mediators. While antimicrobial drug treatment plays a pivotal role in preventing and controlling infection-dependent inflammation, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which inhibit the cyclooxygenase enzymes and decrease prostaglandin synthesis, hormonal agents, antioxidants, and immunomodulatory or biological therapies based on infection etiology, disease severity, comorbidities, and reproductive goals are also important components of pharmacological treatment. In selected cases, surgical interventions and complementary or alternative approaches may be required as non-pharmacological treatment. Surgical approaches directly target the pathological tissue, remove the inflammatory source, and restore the normal pelvic anatomy in inflammation-related disorders such as anatomical distortion, persistent pain, and infertility. This chapter aims to present current information on pharmacological and evidence-based treatment of inflammation in the reproductive system, as well as various surgical methods and innovative future treatment approaches.
