“KÖY ENSTİTÜLERİ” DENEYİMİ. Çağdaş Dönem Türkiye’sinde Eğitim Reformları ve Öğretmenlik Eğitimi (1808-1954).
Köy Enstitüleri Türkiye’de 1940 ile 1954 yılları arasında uygulamaya konulan bir eğitim tasarısıdır. Amacı, o tarihlerde okuma yazma bilmeyen kırsal nüfus oranını ortadan kaldırmak üzere kırsal kesimden gelen kişileri köylere öğretmen yetiştirmektir. Ancak, çocukları ve büyükleri eğitmenin yanı sıra, öğretmenlerin o zamanlar tarım işlerini canlandırma ve kırsal nüfusu her açıdan çağdaşlaştırma anlamında da yardımcı olması gerekmektedir. Bu projenin gerçek önemini ve sonuçlarını anlamak için Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’ndan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti tarihinin ilk birkaç on yılına kadar olan zaman dilimindeki eğitim sisteminin gelişimini ve eğitimle ilgili yapılan ilk değişiklikleri bilmek gerekir. Tam da bu sebeple, bu kitap Tanzimat Dönemi olarak bilinen dönemden başlayarak 20. yüzyılın ortalarına kadarki süreci kapsamaktadır.
THE EXPERIENCE OF “THE VILLAGE INSTITUTES”. Educational Reforms and Formation of Teachers in Contemporary Turkey (1808-1954).
The Village Institutes were an educational experience put into practice in Turkey between 1940 and 1954. They were founded with the aim of forming teachers of rural background in order to put an end to the then high rate of illiteracy among the rural population of the country. However, as well as educating children and adults, teachers had to help revitalize agricultural labor and convert rural population into modern citizens in every aspect. It is important to know about the evolution of the educational system with its early changes ranging from the era of the Ottoman Empire to first decades of the Turkish Republic to better understand the significance and outcomes of this project. For this very reason, this book covers a time span from the period called the Era of Reforms (Tanzimat) to the mid 2oth century.
