ECOLOGICAL CHANGES IN THE SEA OF MARMARA, ss.847-860, 2025 (SCI-Expanded)
Three cetacean species have been regularly recorded in the Turkish Straits System, namely bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus, common dolphin Delphinus delphis, and harbour porpoise Phocoena phocoena. These endangered marine mammals inhabiting this water, which represents an important waterway and biological corridor, continue to occur in the area despite various anthropogenic threats. In this paper, all available studies on cetaceans in the region were compiled to review the recent status of these mammals in the studied area.
