Memlük hakimiyetinin son dönemlerinde Kudüs’te yaşayan Mücîrüddin
el-Uleymî’nin (ö. 928/1521) el-Ünsü’l-celîl bi-târîhi’l-Kuds ve’l-Halîl
adlı eseri İslam tarih literatüründe müstakil olarak Kudüs’ün tarihine
hasredilmiş ilk ve en önemli tarih eseridir. Yaratılıştan müellifin
yaşadığı döneme kadar uzanan ve Kudüs’ü merkeze alan bir dünya tarihi formunda
kaleme alınan el-Ünsü’l-celîl, tarih, siyer, fezâil, hıtat ve tabakât
gibi çeşitli türleri birleştirmesi ve bu farklı telif geleneklerine ait
malzemeyi sistematik bir bilgi tasnifiyle sunması bakımından ansiklopedik bir
karakter taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada Uleymî’nin entelekütel biyografisi ve
Kudüs’le kurduğu yakın ilişkinin yanı sıra el-Ünsü’l-celîl’de takip
ettiği ansiklopedik telif planı, Kudüs’ü insanlık tarihinin merkezine
yerleştiren anlatısı ve eserin Kudüs tarihi için kaynaklık değeri inceleme
konusu edilmiştir.
Mujīr al-Dīn al-ʿUlaymī
(d. 928/1521), a prominent scholar, chiefjudge and historian who lived in
Jerusalem during the late Mamluk rule, compiled a book, namely al-Uns
al-Jalīl bi-Tārīkh al-Quds wa-al-Khalīl, the first and foremost work in the
Islamic historical literature devoted exclusively to the history of Jerusalem. Written
in the form of a world history from the creation to the author’s lifetime and centred
on Jerusalem, al-Uns al-Jalīl has an encyclopedic character in that it combines
various literary genres such as history, sīra, faḍāʾil, khıṭaṭ, and ṭabaqāt and
presents the material belonging to these different traditions within a
systematic classification of information. This study discusses al-ʿUlaymī’s
intellectual biography and his close relationship with Jerusalem, as well as
the encyclopedic plan he followed in al-Uns al-Jalīl, his narrative that
places Jerusalem at the centre of human history, and the work’s value as a
source for the history of Jerusalem.
