Abstract

An overview of the historical developments related to astronomy in Turkey is presented. Developments in the Republican Period (since 1923) of Turkey are given; the first institute of astronomy was established in 1933. Recent developments and ongoing projects are also summarized. By 2020, it is expected that the two largest telescopes in Turkey will be 4 m and 2.5 m.
