Özet:
This study aims to shed light on the studies carried out at the local level to ensure that women in Istanbul have equal opportunities in social and economic life. The approaches of the UN to women's policies are given by including the historical process and feminist theories are discussed for a better understanding of these concepts. The aim is to reveal the role and impact of municipalities in realizing gender equality. In the case of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Kadıköy, Avcılar, Beylikdüzü and Büyükçekmece Municipalities how local equality action plans were created and implemented were examined in detail. The suitability of municipalities' services to the seven thematic areas included in the Local Equality Action Plans was discussed. In addition, the studies and trainings of these municipalities were evaluated by comparison. In-depth interviews were conducted with the employees of all municipalities as supporting data. The results provided an important assessment of the effectiveness and success of the work carried out at the local level in Istanbul.
