Prof. Faruk Kerem GİRAY

Biography

Dr.Giray graduated from Istanbul University, Law Faculty in 1998 before having postgraduate degree in European Union Law at Marmara University  EU Institute in 2000. He made academic researches at London University Advanced Legal Studies Institute for his doctorate  thesis in 2004. He was awarded Ph.D degree in "Private Law" section from Istanbul University Social Sciences Institute in 2007 due to his thesis focusing on International Child Abduction issues which was published also as a book.

He worked as a research assistant during the years 1999-2007 at Istanbul Law Faculty in International Private Law Department. Then he was appointed as a military judge to the 2^nd Army Commandership for his military service. 

Giray was appointed as an assistant professor in 2008. He made researches as an academician at Georgetown University Law Faculty, where he was granted with a scholarship both from Turkish Higher Education Council and Georgetown Law School in  2011-2012. During these years he simultaneously made researches on ICSID arbitration in the World Bank and also at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

Giray was  appointed as an associate professor in 2013 due to his articles and published book named "Compensation Arising From Expropriation in International Investment Arbitration and Methods Used in the Calculation of Compensation". In 2014, he took part in the establishment of the legal clinics program of the faculty and served as the program coordinator until 2020.He was appointed as a full time professor to the same department in 2020 due to his articles, projects and published book named "Limitation Periods in International Private and Procedural Law".

In 2022 Prof.Giray was elected as a Correspondent of Turkey by the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) in Rome / Italy.

Prof. Giray gives courses on Private International Law, International Civil Procedural Law  for undergraduates and International Family and Child Law, International Refugee Law, Disability Rights and International Investment Law-ICSID Arbitration for postgraduate students in Law Faculty and Social Sciences Institute at Istanbul University. Nowadays, doing his second postgraduate studies on Tax Law.
